Taking advantage of Alberta’s thriving craft beer market, Mike Ward opened The Brewer’s Apprentice in July 2017 with a group of friends, providing a one-stop shop where beer lovers can pick up a growler filled with 48 different craft brews from Alberta and beyond. After visiting similar shops throughout Washington and Oregon, Mike decided it was time to bring the experience to Calgary. “If you go to a bar to get a pint, the beer always seems to be better,” he says. “The environment helps, of course, but beer is actually just better off draft. It’s fresher, it’s how the brewers intended.”
Canned or bottled beers could sit on shelves for weeks before being purchased and consumed, he explains, but filling a growler from The Brewer’s Apprentice ensures you’ll be able to enjoy the freshly poured pint experience in the comfort of your own home. Under one roof, beer enthusiasts and newcomers can sample or purchase a huge variety of pale ales, IPAs, porters, stouts and more – all carefully curated by store manager Heather Jerred.
