The space in which The Laugh Shop entertains has been hosting laughs since the 1980s. In 2008, it was bought and rebranded, but Matthew Wall stayed on as the manager and talent booker. Having been booking talent since 2000 in Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver, Matthew knows a hot act when he sees it.
“We host premier, marquee talent in an intimate setting,” Matthew says. “Professional comedians who love performing, especially in smaller venues where crowd involvement is possible.”
Matthew mentions how Drew Carry played to, and joked with, the back, middle and front of the crowd just because it was possible. “And some comedians like sticking around after the show," he notes, "to take pictures and sign autographs and just hang out with the crowd.”
Pretty standard comedy club look. I have seen some really good performers there in the past so they seem to have an eye for picking talent. Staff are average, but that seems to be the new normal just about everywhere these days.
