Having both grown up in Ocean Park, Lana and Darcy Lewis were keen to become a part of the local business community when the opportunity arose. “We actually went to school with the previous owners. And Darcy had been doing the refrigeration here for over three years. So when they decided to retire after running the deli for 36 years, they approached him,” says Lana.
Since Lana and Darcy took over ownership of this longstanding local favourite in late 2014, The Salt Cellar Delicatessen has become very much a whole family affair in which everyone brings their own strengths to the table.
Lana has the meat cutting and baking background, having previously worked in the deli and meat department of a large grocery chain, while Darcy continues to fix all the equipment. “My daughters, Larissa and Devanae, both have customer service backgrounds, and my son-in-law, Brandon, is a cook. So we all have our strong points and we all work together,” says Lana.
