Meinhardt Fine Foods

Walking through the aisles of this place is like taking a trip around the world. You really get a bit of everything from international foodie favourites to local goodies. Although a lot of people complain about the price, I personally think you really get what you pay for. All foods in the cold case and hot bar are actually made in house rather than most supermarkets where they try to get away with frozen goods.

disappointing

I live only a block away from Meinhart's and have kept waiting to see some improvement since the new ownership but am still very disappointed. Yesterday we bought a large bouquet of flowers (not cheap) and today half of the blooms are totally collapsed (yes, I trimmed the stems) Today I bought 2 lamb cops in the deli and they were old and dried out. No, I didn't examine them carefully enough. And my neighbours are getting louder with their bad stories of the place.

The other side of the coin

If you have any coin left after shopping here!! Yes they have unique items, but at what price? Someone should remind them that times are tough right now and as well remind the owner that she too has bills and products that she seems to not want to pay for..Hmmmmm So us the consumers at the cost of impressing our friends and family shop for items in her stores with fancy labels? Yet the comparable items can be found at much cheaper prices elsewhere. Wake up people...smell the coffee...but in an another establishment!

Almost anything you can imagine

Picture this...you're making a new dish out of a cook book. You mentally check off all of the ingredients ... lamb... check....rice...check...quince paste...ch...QUINCE PASTE?!? you exclaim...where are you going to find quince paste?! The answer 99 times out of a 100 is Meinhardt's. This long established location carries all those hard to find ingredients for dishes you never thought you could make. What's more, this place is a foodie's candy store. All kinds of exotic and scrumptious brands of all types of food, spices and delicacies from around the world. A great selection of prepared food and a great butcher shop in store. Visit at special occasions like Christmas and Halloween and marvel at all of the wonderful and unique goodies they stock in their front of store displays. As someone who enjoys food I can't tell you how nice it is to also shop in a grocery store where you don't have to wade through aisles of clothing and housewares in order to buy some food. Next time you are looking for something out of the ordinary or just a neat place to peruse the unique and wonderful drop in on Meinhardt;s!
