I always like to support the local cafes in my neighbourhood and Viva on Yew Street is one of my favourites. It’s right by the beach so I usually stop in there with my dog to grab an Americano and a little bite to eat before we go for a long walk. The bakery has great paninis and little sandwiches but they also offer a number of gluten free baked goods as well. They’ve also got a charming little patio that’s a nice spot to sit and is great for people watching.
This is one of Kitsilano’s favourite independently-owned businesses, thanks to the great service and friendly atmosphere. The freshly-baked pastries and famous 49th Parallel Coffee are the perfect treats to take to the beach when the weather heats up. Be sure to try the specialty drinks, like the chai and iced lattes, when you feel like mixing up your daily coffee routine.
You’ll go crazy for the baked goods at Viva Fine Foods and Bakery. This small neighbourhood business makes all its baked goods on-site and their treats — like scones and carrot zucchini muffins — make for perfect, grab-and-go breakfast options, as does the classic breakfast burrito. The specialty coffee at Viva is always a delight, so be sure to ask the barista to make you one of their amazing chai lattes to top off your visit.
