I have coming to this restaurant since young child. I recommended wonton soup, egg roll as a start. Crispy Beef or crab raggons as a appetizer, Chili Shrimp to die for, sizzling Cantonese Pork, Ginger Lobster, Cantonese Chow Mein, General Toa's Chicken, Sweet & Sour Chicken Balls (amazing), Dry Garlic Ribs, & Happy Fried Rice. All gluten free expected the Sweet & sour Chicken & noodle in the Cantonese Chow mein. Great portion & taste is out of this world. The Patio in the summer is amazing!!! Riverwalk the best view. Service, is great. Owner are awesome. Ask for Jack or Alvin.
Due to traffic on the Peace Bridge, we decided to try later in the day. To kill time, we decided to find a nearby restuarant. We were all so pleasantly surprised by the genuine hospitality of the servers and the owner, the tastiness of the food, and the fun experience of it all! Because it was such an enjoyable experience, we have made this into a yearly Christmas season tradition. We must travel 2 1/2 hours to get there, but the enjoyment is worth it. We have added seeing the NY Falls after our meal. We have always found the servers to be friendly and most helpful. We have also enjoyed the owner, who, again, genuinely seems to enjoy his customers. The food was very delicious. We also enjoyed the family style service. All around, this place has been fun for us. We're thankful we took that detour that day!
We ordered in because it was our moving day. The chicken fried rice, and the mushroom chow mein were tasty. The rest was over cooked to the point it was inedible. Egg rolls, sweet and sour spare ribs, and chicken balls were thrown out. The red sauce was tasteless like it's been watered down. We will never order from there again. Atmosphere is unknown because we ordered in, but I had to fill it out or it wouldn't post.
I used to come here as a kid with my folks and decided to bring my kids here while I was in town. It's seen a few upgrades (and downgrades) since I was last here. I was saddened to hear that the original Happy Jack passed away a while back, but it's still run by his sons (including Happy Jack Jr.) When we first walked in, it seemed just like I remembered it. Ok. Except for the Koi pond at the entrance is now empty of fish and water. The waiters were very quick and efficient. It didn't take long after ordering for the food to start appearing. The spareribs were amazing. very meaty and hot. The vegetables were fresh, but were a bit too lubricated for my taste. The chicken balls are one of my childhood favorites and I was really looking forward to them. Sadly, the reality just didn't live up to the memories. The chicken itself was fine. Just the right ratio of chicken to batter, with just the right amount of salt to the batter and chicken. The sauce had bits of pineapple as I remembered, but had a slight plastic aftertaste to it. It's not quite as I remembered it, but it's still familiar enough that it feels like I'm sharing a piece of my childhood with my kids. The prices are a bit higher than average for Fort Erie, but not unreasonable. It's definitely reflected in the service and the quality of the food you get, so you do get what you pay for. Next time, I think I'll be sure to ask them to go a bit easier on the oil.
We've ate here several times and had takeout, too. The staff are very friendly. Food is good altho' a few times not as good (some cooks better than the others?) The interior looks dated and the washroom needs to be renovated. Great wonton soup and Cantonese chow mein and other dishes too.
I like the food here and have no issue paying a nominal amount for some rice. However, I do think it is time that the restaurant make some capital improvements. The patio is beautiful but some other work needs to be done. SUITABILITY FOR SENIORS AND DISABLED: The restrooms upstairs are not suitable for seniors or people with disabilities, even temporary disabilities. If I recall there are also stairs coming into the restaurant. Because the issue with the restrooms has persisted for so long, I will drop the Atmosphere rating to below average. The interior needs a little updating in general and the building nextdoor which houses the "outdoor" restrooms is rundown looking.
We used to go to Happy Jack's about once a week as it was the best place for Chinese food. The last time we went, we were charged extra for white rice! Maybe I'm wrong in my thinking that white rice is somewhat of a staple with Chinese food. I think the owners are trying to cut corners and save money but I think they are going about it the wrong way. The last time we were there, we took my 80 year old father. Getting upstairs to the bathroom was just not possible for him. Finally a waiter let him use a bathroom on the main floor. I think the restaurant has really gone down hill both in food quality and atmosphere in the last few years. It tuly is sad to see this as Happy Jack's was our favorite restaurant for a long time. There is a female waitress who is extremely rude. It got to the point that when we went in, if we saw her on the floor, we would specifically ask not to have her as our server. I still have cravings for their sizzling Cantonese pork but will not go back! Anyone have any suggestions for good Chinese food either in the Buffalo or Fort Erie areas? We're desperate!!! LOL
We have gone several times in the last few years and especially like the outdoor patio but we will never be going back - my personal protest. REASONS: 1. We were with five couples and the waiter would not split the bill. We dine out frequently and never run into this. 2. On this same occasion they stuck us in a very tight corner. 3. On another occasion the owner was an aquaintance of one of the couples (again with five couples) so he said he would do up this wonderful special meal for us. Of course no one asked 'how much $?' It turned out to be $40 a person and there was so much food we ended up with a dozen doggie bags. We all felt we were taken advantage of and will NOT go back.
Well we had my mom's birthday party at Happy Jacks and the food was just amazing. We have been there several times now and every time the food and the staff have been great. We love the chilli shrimp and Tao’s chicken. Alvin and Jack Jr. have both come to our table and made sure our meal was perfect. When the patio is open it is our favourite place to eat, what a nice view. They also have a great caramel desert that is awesome. I must say that I have never had better Chinese food. Happy Jacks is now the only place we will go for Chinese!
Not sure why, maybe just an old bad habit, but evertyime I revisit Happy Jacks things keep getting worse. Eating in is usually fine, but haven't done that in years. Takeout is where they really have a hard time staying consistent. I swore them off years ago when they messed up an order and were completely rude on the phone when I called about it. Since then I've occasionally re-ordered (why?) and each time the overal all quality and value has decreased. Most obvious is the fact that each time I order the elimiate something from the delivery. First it was the free white rice on the side, then fortune cookies, then condiments, now its soup noodles. Despite requesting these items they are still not coming with my orders (usually $30+). I think the owners are just looking for ways to pad their bottom line. While they have never been know for treating locals as well as the NY State crowd, they seem to have really forgotten who keeps them alive, especially come winter. It's sad bc there was a time when I truly loved their food, but quality and service have dropped dramatically. In my mind if you don't treat me as well just because I had the food delivered then this speaks volumes about their motivations.
Service at this restaurant is very good. The food we ordered was quite tasty and spiced to suit our different tolerances. White rice, as with all rice, is typically served on the side at Asian restaurants. We quite enjoyed the patio on the back with the view of the Niagara River and the Peace Bridge. The restaurant offers reasonable weekly specials during week days. Washrooms for the patio need some attention and the ones inside are up many stairs which is not convenient for seniors or those with disabilities at all.
Wow! Worst meal ever! Food looks like slop when it comes to the table. Nothing has its own taste. The waiter served everybody at different times. By the time the last person was served everyone else was done eating their dinner. Terrible. The restaurant is outdated.
I HAVE TRAVELED QUITE A BIT. I AM ALWAYS ON THE LOOK OUT FOR SOMETHING SPECIAL. I AM A LOVER OF ITALIAN AND MEXICAN FOOD. I DO LIKE CHINESE, BUT I MUST SAY THAT THE MEAL I ATE AT HAPPY JACKS IS THE BEST I HAVE EVER EATEN. I DONT KNOW QUITE HOW TO DESCRIBE IT. IT TASTED BETTER THAN FOOD. EACH BITE WAS A PLEASURE AND I COULDNT WAIT FOR THE NEXT. I LIVE TWO AND A HALF HOURS AWAY AND I PLAN ON GOING THERE AGAIN THIS WEEKEND FOR DINNER. YOU MIGHT SAY I AM TAKING MY WIFE TO THE FALLS AND THEN OVER TO HAPPY JACKS, BUT I KNOW I AM GOING TO HAPPY JACKS AND THEN BY THE FALLS. THE OWNERS ARE QUITE ATTENTIVE TO THE CUSTOMERS. IF YOU EVER HAVE THE CHANCE, STOP BY AND GIVE THEM A TRY. I KNOW SOME OF THE OTHER ENVIOUS RESTAURANT OWNERS HAVE POSTED FALSE REVIEWS. SIMPLY BY THE WORDAGE. THIS PLACE IS GREAT.
A friend and I went to dinner tonight, he hasnt been to Happy Jacks in ages. He ordered sesame chicken, it didnt come with anything, he had to order white rice on the side. I didnt think that was good. I ordered sweet and sour ribs, I thought they would be like actual ribs with a bone, instead they were over fried pieces of whatever. They were gross. The waiter was good, very attentive but I left disappointed on the food and the price.May go back but would not order the same food. I used to like this place but I think the food isnt as great as it used to be. It is a shame, it is a nice place. my dessert was pecan pie, it didnt taste good at all, it was really dry.
We have eaten at this restaurant for years with no complaints until recently. Over priced for the very small portions of take out food. The traditional take out trays have been replaced with small plastic dishes. Very disappointed, probably will not return, fortunately there is lots of competition.
I have tried all the chinese rest. in F.E. This is my staple! Fresh, consistant food. There are always new menu items. My wife and I always order from here. These brothers run their businsess like it's guide to success. They have their fingers on the pulse of the hospitality industry. with that, you can be assured a great dining experience.
Have been going to Happy Jacks for a couple years now. Can honestly say that we have never been dissapointed even tried the competition next door one time and although meal was ok nothing compared to Happy Jacks. Service is always great Food awsome with each dish having its own unique taste, somthing I find is lost in the buffet experience at places like Mandarin as all their food tastes basically the same. Went for my daughters birthday one time they even brought her a free piece of one of the excellent cakes they have for desert. When she passed it around as others wanted a taste Jack brought over 3 more complimentry pieces for the table. We always go away fully satisfied with the meal and service and usually a bag of food we were just too full to eat. Leftovers are usually devoured the next day and still taste great. I have eaten chineese food all over the world and rate Happy Jacks as one of the best. There was one chineese food place in the UK that is right up there for quality of food and service but pricing was roughly double that of Happy Jacks here at home.
I like this restaurant for the patio facing the river. It is always enjoyable to come here in the summertime. The food is tasty, service was exceptional. Regular coffee really ought to be bottomless though, not pay on per cup basis. The parking area across the street was convenient.
THE BEST SERVICE & CHINESE FOOD I EVER HAD FOR A LONG TIME. THEIR COMPLETE SPECIAL DINNER FOR 2 ARE GREAT. (THERE WERE 5 DIFFERENT DINNER FOR TWO) THERE ALSO OFFER DIM SUM, BBQ DUCK,MAUI MAUI FISH, LIVE LOBSTER, & SO MUCH MORE!!! ALSO AUTHETIC CANTONESE & NEW THAI CUISINE !! ALSO, THEY HAVE CANADIAN DISHES TOO. I MET THE OWNERS, THEY WERE GREAT TO TALK TOO. THE BUSINESS WAS EST AT 1967. OVER 40 YEARS OF EXPERIENCES. THEY ALSO DO CATERING UP TO 1200 PEOPLE. IN THE YEAR OF 2003, THE RIVERWALK WAS BUILT IN THE BACK OF HAPPY JACK'S RESTAURANT. I CAN'T WAIT TO DINE IN THE SUMMER. TOWN OF FORT ERIE & NIAGARA PARKS HAS BUILT A RIVERWALK FOR PEOPLE TO VEIW THE GREAT NIAGARA RIVER. I CAN'T WAIT TILL SUMMER.
I thought that everything about my trip to Happy Jacks was awesome! Our waiter was wonderful, the drinks were cold, the food was absolutly delicious. I thurally enjoyed my dinner and evening and I now get happy jack's take out all the time!!!
