Au Petit Extra has been enlivening and nourishing its neighbourhood since 1985. This bistro with European accents barely seated 40 when it opened, but over the years it has turned into a spacious restaurant adjacent to the Lion d'Or theatre.
Since its inception, Au Petit Extra has been a unifying place where all sorts of energizing initiatives are born — it soon became the rallying point for artists, journalists and the business community of Ville-Marie. "Our niche is really that of a bistro with a good value. We find that the customers are very happy with this. We don't wish to pay for gourmet," says co-owner André Baillargeon.
In the '80s, the first owners, Jean Filippi and Pierre Charron, wanted to instill beauty in their surroundings and make passersby smile as much as the customers. "I think they wanted to make this area, once very hard and poor, a little better, a little more habitable for everyone," says André.

A very disappointing anniversary dinner. Service and food quality has gone downhill. Big time. The cod was so dry and tough, so was my duck breast. Our jaws were tired after half way of the meal. Our server was kind of cold and inattentive. Had to wait 15 mins to order, and he never refill the wine or water for us. We took the issue of the fish to the server and he just said nothing, and turned to ask the hostess to talk to us instead. Overall experience was pretty bad.

Real French decor! No fuss, just perfect! Even the front, with its champagne and wine inscription on the window is a reminder of the genuine Paris. Add to that the foie gras, duck breast and apple pie... enough said!

For the main course, the choice is yours between cod fillet, the saddle of rabbit stuffed with Saint-Benoît-du-Lac blue cheese, or fettuccine in squid ink with tomatoes and lemon confit. A brownie with Grand Marnier orange salad for dessert will be sure to round your evening off with a smile.

Hanger steak, duck breast and confit, sarladaise potatoes, blood sausage and tartare all offer a taste of France, especially when enjoyed with one of the wines that have been carefully selected by the sommelier, and followed by a dessert like crème brûlée or Paris Brest.
