Edmonton isn’t swarming with famous celebrities 24/7. So, when movie stars and rock gods do come to town, we notice. These Edmonton hangouts are where the rich and famous spend their time when they’re in E-town – after all, celebs gotta eat too.
Big screen beauty Jessica Biel became a regular at Transcend while in town with her husband, Justin Timberlake, during his 20/20 Experience World Tour. Biel even tweeted about the popular coffee shop, cementing its status as a celeb hot spot in the city.
Miley Cyrus and then-fiancee Liam Hemsworth christened a room at The Matrix when he was in town filming Cut Bank. The hotel’s sleek, modern interior, elegant but not stuffy atmosphere and fabulous restaurant makes it a popular choice for celebs who like their privacy but also want to be close to downtown. Plus, it has a Starbucks right in it for paparazzi-free early morning coffee runs.
Metallica digs it. Their fans, not so much, as the manager is very good at keeping them away from the band when they just want to enjoy a nice meal in peace. It’s probably the manager’s background as a Broadway star (he was in the musical Rent, alongside Neil Patrick Harris) that makes him so good at handling celebs and their groupies. But it’s a mixture of that calm, private environment and the excellent food that keeps the rock stars coming back.
It’s where Justin Bieber and Selina Gomez used to chow down and mack on each other when they were a couple. John Malkovich also sat down at the diner several times when filming Cut Bank with Liam Hemsworth and Billy Bob Thornton. It basically turned into a big game of spotting Malkovich around town and tweeting about it. It even resulted in a magazine article about his dining habits here in Edmonton.
It’s the fanciest restaurant in Edmonton, with an award-winning chef, very limited seating and a very long waitlist – it all combines to make it the perfect hideout spot for celebs. No word on whether he gets to skip the queue when they are in town but rumour has it John Malkovich dines here when he’s in the area on a shoot.
This casual, hipster hangout attracts the likes of Liam Hemsworth when he’s in town shooting a movie. The restaurant/club’s vibe is perfect for celebs, with dim lighting and a usually packed room making it hard to find people you know, let alone people you’ve only seen in magazines or onscreen. It doesn’t hurt that the menu is a playful mix of fun and fancy, and the drinks are straight-up awesome – the bartender might spend 10 minutes making it but every drop is worthy of a movie star.
