This review is way past due; I've been coming here frequently for over 5 years now for no reason other than it is FANTASTIC. The master chef and his wife are such lovely people who's efforts and dedication to the restaurant really have a great influence on the atmosphere. Did I mention that the food is amazing? The rolls are made fresh and just simply really well. I love the design of the seating area and how the booths are separated it really gives a cozy feel to the place. While Zen is our favourite Japanese Restaurant, my boyfriend and I have enjoyed dining here for their enoki maki (thin slices of beef wrapped around enoki-Japanese mushrooms). Their nigiri and sashimi while delicious is not a priority for us to order as they serve very thin small pieces for the price you pay. We have also had their sukiyaki (we cook ourselves on the table) and it is large enough for 3 people, although much more expensive ($60 for 2 people which includes rice and raw egg for dipping) than other restaurants where we have enjoyed the same. The sukiyaki comes traditionally (as they served), with slices of thin sukiyaki beef, tofu, Chinese cabbage, green onion, oyster mushrooms, shitake mushrooms and regular mushrooms, transparent thin noodles and onion. Their broth was excellent-not too sweet. A great meal to have on a cold day. Read more
