There is a lot of truth to the old expression "They don’t make ‘em like they used to." Karolina Mysior, the owner of KILO Fripe on Montreal’s Saint-Laurent Boulevard knows this very well, especially when it comes to clothing. Since July 2011, she has operated her vintage clothing store on one of the city most famous streets with the goal of recycling old garments and saving them from the trash heap.
“It's better for the environment. We don't pollute,” she says. “Second, the clothes are made with nicer materials like wool and cashmere. It’s thick so the clothes last longer.”
“It's all mass production now. They make clothes in the cheapest places possible and in the biggest quantities possible and it’s not good after a couple months so you buy again,” she says. Companies used to make clothes to last, using higher quality materials, these garments could be passed from generation to generation.
