We had a great time at Bijou and I don't agree with any of these negative reviews. To me a chalkboard menu and higher prices reflect this restaurant's commitment to local food and keeping things interesting during changing seasons. I respect this restaurant for providing quality food and taking their time rather than taking a touristy "more bang for your buck" approach. One that note though, I did notice the service was a little slow. Not really slower than I'd expect considering the care that goes into the food, but if you're rushing to catch a show this place is maybe not your best bet. When we had our Stratford trip we made our reservation on a night where we weren't seeing any shows and got to appreciate a slower paced and delicious meal. Read more

I highly recommend Rene's for anyone who enjoys fine dining but doesn't want to experience "sticker shock" when the cheque arrives. While I enjoy fine food, I don't tend to enjoy "upscale" restaurants. The staff are usually haughty, the portions wouldn't satisfy a hummingbird, and I'm supposed to be impressed just because they artistically drizzled some raspberry sauce along the side of the plate. Rene's Bistro was a very pleasant surprise! While the menu choices were creative and the food delicious, the atmosphere was bustling and friendly. If felt more like a neighborhood cafe, and there were obviously both a lot of locals and tourists there. Best of all: no sticker shock. Read more

After learning I would be dining alone tonight, I decided to try a tiny little place I had heard mentioned recently. My waiter was attentive, pleasant and quite knowledgeable about the food he was serving. The overall atmosphere was pleasing and would be the perfect setting for a romantic meal. The choices offered, combined with the soothing surroundings peaked my curiousity enough that I decide for the second time in the evening to try something new. I tried the Bison burger with Warm Potato salad. The server described it to me as a Bison burger with caramelized onions, smoked cheddar, truffle scented mushrooms and barbecue sauce. Jake & Humphreys make all their own bread items that appear on their menu, the combination of the Bison, toppings on a fresh and soft bun, made the whole item a palate pleaser. A nice glass of South African Cabernet Sauvignon enhanced what was already a sumptious dining experience. I will be returning to the restaurant again, definitely a great place to dine, relax and enjoy. Perhaps next time I will take someone with me or perhaps I will again go and enjoy another romantic meal for one! Hopefully next time I have room for dessert as they looked promising! Read more

I have been here a few times over the past year or so, and I have to say things seem to have gotten better. Our server was super friendly, and was always right there with drinks when needed. The menu is what you'd expect, nothing mind blowing. But unlike in the past, the wings were juicy (sure they are smaller, but at least they are not that breaded crap!) and you get great fries and the best dipping sauce around. My wife had the pizza, which is suprisingly good. Our waitress said that they've got a bunch of new cooks in the back, and it shows. Its not where you'd go for fine dining, but for some good drinks and decent bar food, it's tough to beat. Read more

I plugged in "diner" in YP search, because i wanted something quick an basic. Red House popped up, and I am so glad that it did! I was pricier than a diner but that was fine with me. It was reasonably priced and the quality of food makes it worth it! Service was excellent as well. I came for lunch (table for 1) but will definitely be back... we went for a friend's birthday dinner. her and her bf love the place. they talk about it all the time. i have heard mixed reviews about the place. going online and checking out menu didn't look too appealing to me. regular food with a high price and over stuffed with "expensive" words for simple ingredients i had a glass of the Chardonnay from usa. excellent should have order 1.2 liter. i shared the sicilian mussel except made not spicy (don't like spicy food). the broth has aromatic and delightful. nice tomatoes, olives and onion broth. mussels were plump and tasty. the table bread was amazing. i usually steer away from bread because it is dry and garbage. but this was warm, soft and fluffy in the middle with a slight chew and crispy on outside. i ordered the shrimp and scallop carciofi (fettucine) made without cream and with tomato instead. the pasta was cooked perfectly, scallops a bit fishy, shrimps were poached perfectly. a bit too much tomato but im a bigger fan of cooked pasta perfect el dente. people sitting around me ordered veggie gnocchi (she loved it), short rib gnocchi (he wolfed it down and wanted more), prosciutto fuselli (she said pasta was amazing too slow portion and prosciutto tasted like bacon, pork chop dinner (thought it was amazing), smoked chicken el la vodka (he said was ok). food was good better than i expected. a bit over priced but it was a friend's birthday.
